Some of the Complimentary / Alternative Therapies that can be used in the workplace A natural holistic therapy, Reiki is an energy technique that balances, harmonizes and restores our energy systems by channelling the energy through the centers in the palms of the hands. For this treatment a couch is advisable. You remain fully clothed and the treatments last 15-20mins . Psychologically, 20mins treatment is equal to 1.5 hours deep sleep. This experience alone makes Reiki a very effective stress reliever. For this treatment it is advisable for a private area to be provided to avoid any distractions whilst the treatment is being carried out so aiding the relaxation process. Please visit the What is Reiki pages for more information Indian Head MassageAn extremely suitable treatment for the workplace as it can be performed through light clothing from a seated position, a couch is not necessary, and benefits can be seen from very short treatments lasting from as short as 15mns minutes. The neck, shoulders and arms are also included in the treatment, these are areas where tension shows up most frequently. For treatments in the workplace no oils are used. Although it is possible to perform this treatment at a person's desk or workstation, it is advisable for a private area to be provided to avoid any distractions whilst the treatment is being carried out so aiding the relaxation process. Please visit the Indian Head massage page for more information Thai Foot MassageAnother very good treatment for the workplace. This can be applied using a seat and stool or a couch. In Thai Foot Massage, and also in reflexology, concentration is given to the 10 major energy lines in the body, which run from the top of the head all the way the soles of the feet. These lines end into 'pressure points', which reflect a complete map of the entire body and all its organs on the soles. By manipulating these different points, the body and the mind are stimulated to restore the balance in that particular area and thereby throughout the whole body. Sessions can be as short as 15mins. Although it is possible to perform this treatment at a person's desk or workstation, it is advisable for a private area to be provided to avoid any distractions whilst the treatment is being carried out so aiding the relaxation process. Please visit the Thai Foot Massage page for more information Meditation & Relaxation This is done in small workgroups and it aims to teach people about identifying stress, managing stress, relaxation, breathing, the importance of "you time", handling stress etc. The exercises can then be carried on, on a daily basis, after the sessions in the workplace.
