What is
Thai Massage?
- Thai Massage is a
traditional massage
that originated in Thailand about 2000 years ago. It
has elements of Shiatsu, Chinese massage , reflexology and Yoga incorporated into the
massage itself. It is still taught by Buddhist monks in the temples of
Thailand
- Its roots can be traced back to ancient India where Jivaka
Komarabhacca, a physician, who was a friend and contemporary of Lord
Buddha, established the techniques, that are still used to this day
-
When
Buddhism began to spread to other parts of Asia, medical institutions and
practices of the monastery went along as integral parts of the religious
system. When Buddhism reached Thailand in the 3rd or 2nd century BC,
temples were built with adjacent dispensaries and medical schools.
-
Massage and
other healing arts were taught and applied in the monasteries and within
the family. It has been mainly an oral tradition (as most
people could not read) handed down from teacher to student and parent to
child.

How does it work?

Thai Massage uses
Shiatsu, Chinese Massage, Yoga, and Reflexology. Just as in
Reflexology, concentration
is given
to the 10 major energy lines
in the body, which run from the top of the head all the way the soles of the
feet. These lines end into 'pressure points', which reflect a complete map
of the entire body and all its organs on the soles.
By manipulating these different points, the
body and the mind are stimulated to restore the balance in that particular
area and thereby throughout the whole body.
